Age 87, loving husband and father of five children, passed away on March 29, 2020. Sewell was born on June 24, 1932 in Beechgrove, TN to Paul and Louise (Glaus) Mason. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Mary “Pat” (Monahan) Mason; daughter, Mary Hinson; sons John, Jim, Mike and David; his sister, Eleanor Moore; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many other family members. After moving from his home state of Tennessee, he met his wife Pat in Naples, FL where they were married in 1954 at Trinity by-the-Cove Episcopal Church. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. Afterward, he began a lifelong career in the telephone industry, keeping pace with the technology along the way, including installer/repairman, supervisor, and digital equipment specialist, moving his family from Punta Gorda, FL to Lawrence in 1974. Sewell retired in 1994, content to spend his time on home projects and community service. He had several hobbies, including ham radio, gardening, blacksmithing, and woodworking; many of his completed projects: chairs, cutting boards, bassinettes, and hope chests, accent the homes of family and friends. Sewell will be remembered for his service to others and his kind and gentle spirit. During his lifetime, he served as Boy Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, PTO President, Little League President, Tiller’s International volunteer and was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo and American Legion Post 174.
