OLSON, Sharon M.
Marcellus, Michigan
Age 80, passed away on January 23, 2024. Sharon was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 16, 1943, the daughter of the late Roland and Margaret (Nallon) Letcher. She graduated from Resurrection High School in Chicago and went on to attend Columbus Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduating nursing school, Sharon started a life-long career at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois. She started out as a lead nurse in the emergency department and eventually was promoted to Night Nursing Supervisor of the entire nursing staff at Gottlieb Memorial. Sharon retired from nursing in 2012 years after 46 years of devoted service. She was a devout (Irish) Catholic and belonged to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Visitation Catholic Church, both in Elmhurst, Illinois. Sharon had a beautiful voice. She sang in the choir and acted as cantor for her churches, and was often asked to sing Ave Maria, one of her favorite songs, for weddings and funerals. Besides her passion for nursing, her most important part of her life was her family. Sharon loved spending time with her entire family, especially at their lake home in Marcellus, Michigan. There, Sharon cherished hosting her family and friends and watching her grandchildren grow up. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, boating and of course eating with them. Sharon is survived by the love of her life, husband, David Olson, who she married on August 26, 1967. She is also survived by her children, Heather (Michael) Braid and Kevin (Trish) Olson; grandchildren, McKayla (Gerardo Marroquin) Braid, Joseph Olson and Sarah Braid; brother in-law, Jim Vanadia and countless nieces, nephews and cousins, here in the States and abroad in Ireland. Besides her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her sisters, Bonnie Vanadia and Julie Grzanka. A mass in honor of Sharon will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York St., Elmhurst, IL 60126.
