Age 65, passed away at Rose Arbor with family at her side. Shirley was born to Frederick and Ann Hewett. Her childhood family moved often but she would eventually settle in Mattawan in a home built by her loving husband. She received her Associates Degree from KVCC and was on her way to achieving a second Associates in graphic design. She was a consummate caregiver and was full of love and compassion for others. Shirley’s heart and home were always open to those in need. Above all she loved caring for her family and did her best to provide for their happiness. She was extremely artistic and talented, constantly creating mementos that live on throughout the country. She also loved reading, sewing, and baking. Shirls was knowledgeable about a myriad of current events. Her adoring husband of nearly 45 years, Dr. William J. Hampstead, survives. She is also survived by her four children, Bill (Elaine) Hampstead, Ben (Sara) Hampstead, Kate (Randy) Hoevenaar, Ellen Hampstead; six grandchildren; her mother; two brothers, Bruce and Mike Hewett; and great friends, especially Ruth Hodge. She was preceded in passing by her father; a sister, Janice, and brother, Fred. Though she has passed from us too soon, her warm smile and gentleness will be missed by all who knew her. She had an enduring impact on the lives she touched, which will be felt forever.
