Age 73, passed away at home on November 10, 2022. Sue was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on June 7, 1949, the daughter of the late Cecil and Hedwig (Starke) Carpenter. She was a kind, gentle and selfless woman whose sole passion in life was caring for others and she was the perfect example of what it means to put other’s first. A hard worker, Sue was employed by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for more then twenty years. Not done serving, she found a second career as Executive Director at Kairos Dwelling Home for the Terminally Ill. In time, because of her compassion and love, Sue would become the foundation of care that is synonymous with Kairos. She was a quiet angel and ever-present comfort to those families facing the loss of a loved one. Her presence at Kairos will be missed by all who knew her. When not working to serve others, Sue found a way to help natures needy as well. Through the years, she rescued multiple stray animals, and her home was always open to a suffering cat or dog. She enjoyed feeding the birds, deer and squirrels and a needed meal was never missed so long as Sue was home. She loved her family, loved others, and loved God’s creatures, and she leaves behind the legacy of a life of compassion, service and grace. Sue is survived by her only daughter, Kim (Vince) Tuinstra; grandchildren, Nicolaas (Emma), Evan, Jonathan, Zoie and Christopher Tuinstra; sister, Judy VanderWeele and her beloved animals, Lilly (dog), Lola (cat) and Sadie (bird).
