A service in witness to Ted’s life and faith will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. noon at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 a.m. noon. Ted will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice, in c/o the funeral home.

Age 78, was called home to be with his Lord early Thursday morning, August 3, 2023. Born on October 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Claude and Gladys (Tormoehlen) Dorman. Ted graduated from Indiana University earning a bachelors degree and Western Michigan University earning a Master of Public Administration degree. Ted was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He retired from the U.S. Department of Defense after 35 years of U.S. government service in 1997. Ted ended his career as a teacher with the Department of Defense personnel around the world on the safety and health of handling hazardous materials and wastes. Ted served in Viet Nam in 1969 as an infantry company commander with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade, winning the Soldier’s Medal for rescuing a Vietnamese woman out of a mine field, three Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Ted was a long-time season ticket holder with the Kalamazoo Wings Hockey Team and volunteered with the Kalamazoo Kings for seven years. Following his retirement from the U.S. Government, his love for sports led him to work in the Athletic Office of Kalamazoo Central High School for four years. Ted is survived by his wife, Cynthia Anable Dorman; children, Michael (Angela) Dorman, Michele Dorman and Mark Dorman; step-children, Tamara Morton and Heather (William) Sagers; grandchildren, Taylor (Chad) Stratton, Griffin (Katie) Dorman, Alexandria Wallace, Aaron Morton; great-grandchildren, Shae, Bennett, and another one to be arriving soon; brother-in-law, Jan Anable; a niece and a nephew; several cousins; and countless friends. Ted was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Keaton Dorman; brother and sister-in-law, Mike (Nancy) Dorman.
