Tom Angyal, 63, passed away shortly after midnight on April 2, 2026. The demons he had fought for much of his life finally got the better of him.

Tom was born December 30, 1962 in Detroit, MI, the youngest of five children of Laszlo “Lou” and Terez (Alusán) Angyal. He was raised in Macomb County, Michigan. Tom attended Paul F. Cousino HS and graduated from Warren-Mott HS, both in Warren, Michigan. He was Homecoming King during his Senior year. Tom worked many years at the Capital Grille in Washington, D.C.

Tom’s parents and his oldest brother (infant) were refugees from Hungary following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and the brutal Soviet crackdown that followed. Their evacuation flight was sponsored by the World Council of Churches. After landing in Newark, NJ, the family soon settled in Macomb County, MI.

On September 14, 2020 Tom married Tim Hickel after a 16-year partnership. He was officially welcomed by the large Hickel Clan. They lived in Hazel Park, MI, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Albuquerque, NM, and South Bend, IN before recently settling in Kalamazoo, MI.

Tom was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Laszlo “Louie” Angyal and Steve Angyal.

Tom is survived by Tim and Tim’s children Stephanie (Roxanne) Kyriakakis and Jordan (Elizabeth) Hickel. Tom enjoyed being Nudge Papa to Georgie, Luca, Ari, and Noah, as well as Brother-in-Law and Uncle to his many Hickel kin.
