A service in witness to Virginia’s life and faith will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, 5550 Oakland Dr. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the church, beginning at 12:00 p.m. noon. Virginia has been laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Elara Hospice, or Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, in c/o the funeral home.

Age 88, passed away Wednesday morning, December 21, 2022. Virginia was born in Kalamazoo, on November 1, 1934, the daughter of Wesley and Alice (Van Haften) Rice. On July 21, 1984, she married Jack D. Cook who survives her. Virginia worked for many years as a beautician. She enjoyed making homemade greeting cards for the shut-in members of her church. She loved knitting, sewing and quilting. Along with Jack, she enjoyed fishing and hunting. As an artist she liked drawing and painting on china. Virginia also liked playing the piano and tending to her garden and canning the fruits of her garden. She loved her family and they were always first in her life. She loved taking care of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Virginia is survived by her daughters, Pamela Gettys, of Battle Creek, Kathleen Cook of Comstock, and Nancy Drenth of Portage; grandchildren, Lisa (Larry) Towery, Michelle (Troy) Story, Stephanie (Jerry) Girdner, Denise (Erin) Hargreaves, Michael (Bill) Cook, Jason Tindell; six great-grandchildren; siblings, David (Ellen) Rice, Ronnie (Shirley) Rice, June (Bennie) Cox; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin Rice and Kenneth Rice.
