Whitney Elizabeth Learman, 29, of Comstock, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2026. She was born in Kalamazoo on March 28, 1997, to Bylinda French and David French. Whitney was a bright, loving, and charismatic person whose warmth touched everyone she met. Her smile lit up every room, and her presence left a lasting impression. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 2015, where she was well liked by classmates and teachers and excelled in cross-country and softball, earning the nickname “Smiley.” She later attended Western Michigan University and earned a bachelor’s degree in food marketing from the Haworth College of Business. On October 4, 2024, after six years together, Whitney married the love of her life, Seth Learman. The couple made their home in Comstock, above her grandparents’ home, and Whitney worked as a server at The Cove Lakeside Bistro. She cherished time with family and friends, especially her beloved furry companions, Mya and Philly. Whitney also found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including watching sunsets over West Lake in Portage. Though her life ended far too soon, she had a deep hope of becoming a mother. She shared that same love generously with those around her and proudly embraced the title “Auntie Whit.” To know Whitney was to love her, and she will be deeply missed. As Taylor Swift wrote, “…And bring on all the pretenders. I’m not afraid. Long live all the mountains we moved—I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you.” Whitney is lovingly remembered by her husband, Seth “Bubbas” Learman; her parents, Bylinda (Angelo “Fred” Buchino) French and David French; her siblings, Amber (Caleb Hyden) French, Carlee Osborn, and Leighton Osborn; her in-laws, Lisa (Andrew) Crawley and Jeremey Osborn; her grandparents, Alice (Ron) Wood and Dewain French; and many aunts, uncles, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Clarice French and JoAnn Learman.
