A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Christina Westbury officiating. A time of visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service. Bill’s cremains will be placed in the columbarium of First Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, c/o the funeral home.

Age 81, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Bill was born in Kalamazoo on August 8, 1936, the son of the late George W. and Alberta M. (Huff) Johnson. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and attended the University of Michigan where he played baseball and later attended Western Michigan University. Bill was a member of the American Institute of Architects and was a principal architect and the chief operations officer for Tower, Pinkster, Titus and Associates. He was also the principal architect for many of Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s building projects and oversaw the building of the new Kalamazoo Valley Museum. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and was a long-time member of Gull Lake View Golf Club. He was an avid volunteer for the Kalamazoo Rocket Football program, which he founded along with his friend Jack Stevens. Bill was also a devout Detroit Tigers fan. He was a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, where he served as an elder, taught Sunday school and coached the church basketball team. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara K. Johnson. Bill is also survived by his children, Michell (Tari) Mercier, Sherry (Alan) Martens and Bill (Corinne) Johnson; six grandchildren, Jasen, Elizabeth, Hannah, Joshua, Emma and Sam; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Patricia (Gil) Seddon, Kyle and Brady Johnson, Joan Havenga and Tom Lodge; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tim Johnson; step-mother, Dorothy Johnson and step-father, Alfred Lodge.
