Age 81, passed away at Rose Arbor on June 6, 2017. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on April 18, 1936, the son of the late Harry and Loretta (Sudman) Vigen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in passing by his wife, Sherry Vigen and two siblings, Lois and Arla. Bill worked at the family business, Vigen Motors, while attending college at Morningside College, in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated with a BA in Business. He became a steel salesman and retired from Chicago Heights Steel in 2001, after being in the industry for over 40 years. Bill was a very active, knowledgeable and involved person. He loved boating and spending the summer days in Traverse City. He knew how to have fun and enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and “Friday night martinis’” with his good friends, Jim and Anne. He also was passionate about music; enjoyed the WMU Gold Company and was a member of the Kalamazoo Men’s Chorus. He had a strong faith and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. He was also a lifetime member of the Elks Club. Bill was a loving husband and father. He was especially dedicated to his son Billy’s needs and always championed the cause of special needs children. He was involved with Special Olympics and was the Vice-President of the Kalamazoo Area Retarded Citizens Committee. Bill was always up on current affairs; loved to watch Fox news and debate politics with anyone. Above all he loved his family and friends and leaves them with many wonderful memories to cherish. He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Lori) Vigen and Billy Vigen; three grandchildren, Tom (Alexandra), AJ (Brittany Hall) Vigen and Ben Lafeldt; a new great-granddaughter, Mackenzie LeeAnn Vigen; a niece who was like a daughter to him, Laurie (Stroddard) Lafeldt and many dear friends that were like family to him.
