Age 86, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Roy, fondly known as “Uncle Roy”, was born in Richmond, Michigan on December 29, 1936, the son of the late Albert L. and Ruth J. (Droulard) Leach. He started farming on his family’s farm in Richmond, Michigan as a young boy and eventually moved to Kalamazoo to work for his brother’s excavating company. Roy started his own excavation company, Roy Leach and Son Excavating, and operated from his home in Comstock for nearly 60 years. He was a skilled grader operator and left his mark on many roads and construction sites throughout Kalamazoo County, leaving Kalamazoo a better place than he found it. Roy was a well-respected businessman, working with many construction companies and the Kalamazoo County Road Commission. In his later years, Roy enjoyed going back to his farming roots and became a gentleman farmer, cherishing working alongside farming friends. Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Joyce E. (Rogers) Leach; brothers, Lloyd, Stanley, Nel and David Leach and sister, Ann Earle. Roy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Katherine A. (Redding) Leach; children, Gary Leach, Erica (Rick) Finedell and Jennifer (Justin) Barts; grandchildren, Tayler, Makenna, Vincent, Everett, Louis and Madelynn; and sister, Ruthann Graham.
