Bruce will be cremated and a memorial service to honor his life will be held in the spring. Bruce believed in the power of knowledge so memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Literacy Council, c/o the funeral home.

Age 67, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Kalamazoo. He was born in Kalamazoo on January 28, 1953, the son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Dudas) Bodnar. Bruce was a kind and loving man who was a joy to know. He had a quick-witted sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was creative and artistic in many ways. He was an avid reader, enjoyed writing poetry and making tye-dye shirts. He loved listening to music and being surrounded by his many books. He was a self-proclaimed “Damn Genius.” He was always up to date on current events and was a proud and loyal Democrat. Bruce also had a strong faith in the Lord and was always willing to help those in need. Above all Bruce loved his family and friends. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who came to be known as “Candy Papa” because he always had a candy treat for his grandchildren. Bruce’s kind smile laugh, and gentleness will be missed by all who loved him. Bruce is survived by his loving daughter, Amy Bodnar; grandchildren, Brodin and Emily Martin; siblings, Paul (Vonnie) Bodnar, Barb (Mike) DeCoe, Rebecca (Roger Gavan) Bodnar and Peggy (Jason) Bodnar; many nieces, nephews and friends
