I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. - 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Age 83, passed away on March 21, 2023 and is now home, safe in the arms of Jesus. He was surrounded by his entire family as they placed his hand in God’s. Gene was born in Kalamazoo on February 8, 1940, the son of Forest and Oral Evelyn (Miner) Brown. Gene accepted Jesus as his Savior on September 26, 1968. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Van Otterloo, whom he married on October 6, 1961. Gene worked as a printer at the Upjohn Company for 30 years. After retirement he and Marilyn bought a fifth-wheel and traveled extensively throughout the United States. They also wintered twenty years in Texas. Gene’s hobbies were woodworking, making clocks, and taking his 1964 Mercury to many carshows. He kept a pristine yard and also kept his cars in showroom condition. His family meant the world to him. He would do anything for them. The family enjoyed bowling together every Saturday. He also took them to Little League and downhill skiing. His kids were always of the mind that if you needed the “Yes” answer, they were to go see dad. Through the years, Gene faithfully served the Lord in several positions in various churches, mostly recently at Centerpoint Church. His favorite hymn was “Redeemed!” Gene is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Joyce Brown of Kalamazoo, Janet Brown of Oshtemo and Kevin Brown of Kalamazoo; his remarkable grandson, Noah Brown, who he loved dearly; his cousin who was like a sister to him, Linda Peterson of Prescott, AZ; many friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
