A service to commemorate Jim’s life will be held on Friday, August 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick Street, with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Those wishing to make a lasting contribution in Jim’s memory are asked to consider Loaves and Fishes or Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, in c/o the funeral home.

James A. Williams, age 72, died on August 2, 2018, following a short illness. Jim was born on March 11, 1946, the son of Frank and Leah (Tanguay) Williams. Jim earned degrees in History from Western Michigan University and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He was a life-long genealogy researcher. He was passionate about books, photography, and music. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed skiing, sailing, canoeing and animals of all kinds, but especially his beloved dogs. He was a longtime member of the National Ski Patrol. More than anything, Jim loved his family. They loved him and will sorely miss him. He leaves behind his wife, Elaine; his sons, Charles Williams and Douglas (Amber) Williams, both of Kalamazoo; a step-daughter, Suzanne Fairbanks of Kalamazoo; a step-son, Robert (Nicole) Barth of Plainwell; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Frances Bowen and  E. Jane Castle, both of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Williams, and sisters, Betty Immekus, Marjorie Haas and Mary Lou Nuyen.
