Age 59, passed away on October 14, 2021, at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Mark was born in Kalamazoo on July 18, 1962, the son of Jean Rice. After graduating high school, he served for a short time in the Military. Mark was a voracious reader and could always be found with a good book or latest article in hand. In his younger days, he enjoyed nature, being outdoors, camping and hiking. He had a passion for technology and could always be found either at his own computer, watching a video of the latest Apple tech launch or helping someone else through their own tech issues. He was an avid learner, he attended Western Kentucky University where he studied Criminology and Theology/Religious Studies. Mark had the heart of a volunteer and was driven to serve those in need. He Served as a prison chaplain for the Green River Correctional Facility in Central City Kentucky for several years. In 2013, he and his wife returned to Michigan and found a church family in Christian Assembly of God. Within the church he was their outreach coordinator as well as the head of audio/video. When needed, he would also assist with church leadership, Sunday school teachings and Bible studies. Above all Mark loved his family and leaves them with many wonderful memories to cherish. On September 18, 1993, he married the love of his life, Kathy who survives. He is also survived by his loving daughter Jennifer Moon and son in law, Michael Dubnicka, mother, Jean Rice of Portage MI, his brothers, Rick Knowlton of Plainwell, Dan Knowlton of Glasgow KY, Dana (Glenna) Knowlton of Kalamazoo MI and sister-in-law, Bonnie Knowlton of Lawrence MI and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in passing by his Grandmother, Hazel May, his brother, Randy Knowlton and his nephew, Ben Knowlton.
