He has been cremated and there will be a celebration of life when the weather is appropriate. The family would like to thank the kind, caring and compassionate staff who had become part of his “family” at Vicinia Gardens for the care they gave Mike during the past eight months.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, c/o the funeral home.

Michael Charles Summerville passed away peacefully at Vicinia Gardens surrounded by many people who loved him. Everybody who knew Mike enjoyed his unlimited funny stories and his great contagious laugh. He was an avid hunter who also loved fishing, gardening, and hockey. As a result, he had a circle of sport enthusiast friends and shared many adventures with them over the years. Mike was born on June 3, 1943 in Kalamazoo. After high school he completed four years of service in the Navy and then went to work for the railroad (Grand Trunk, Conrail, and Amtrak) where he remained for 38 years. Mike also had a sobriety record that numbered 33 years. In 1981, he married Colleen Hatfield and they became a blended family of six. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn (Fitzgerald), his parents, Milo and Virginia (Molenaar), and a sister, Janet Sorrentino. He is survived by his wife, Colleen; daughters, Cheryl (Dale) Warren, Julie Hatfield Fillmore; sons, Sean Summerville and Robert (Kim) Hatfield; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren; sister, Patty (David) Lamb; brother, Steve Summerville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
