Age 81, passed away at her home on Monday, January 14, 2019. Nancy was born in Mansfield, Ohio on April 27, 1937, the daughter of Fred Barth and Melba Plato. She moved to Michigan in 1966, where she became known for her infectious personality while working at Stanwood’s Luggage and Leather Shop in downtown Kalamazoo. Nancy would later go on to open her own store, Showcase Luggage in Portage. She retired from Portage Commerce Bank. Nancy was a walking catalog for the Great American Songbook. You could give her a word or phrase and she could instantly incorporate it into a classic song from the past. Nancy became a fixture in the South Westnedge neighborhood of Portage through her daily walks and willingness to engage in conversation with whomever she came across. She leaves behind the love of her life of the past 40 years, Larry Jones. Nancy is also survived by three children, Pam (Barb) Steward, Brian (Tina) Steward and Stephen (Peggy) Steward; grandchildren, Ross (Tiffany) Steward, Lindsay (Ian) Cardwell, Sarah (Anthony) Fernandez, Helen (Brett) Thompson and Conor Steward; great-grandchildren, Zuri, Nash, Kyla and Rebecca; brother, Ed (Laura) Jenkins; sisters, Dorothy Tasman, Penny (Larry) Foster, Lillian (Greg) Wilson and Kathy Barth; as well as several nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Fred (Helen) Barth and mother, Melba Jenkins.
