A service to commemorate Richard’s life will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St. Kalamazoo. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon. Those wishing to make a lasting gift in Richard’s name are invited to remember the Wounded Warrior Project, c/o the funeral home.

Age 80, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021. Richard was born in Norwalk, OH, on April 13, 1941, the son of Curtis Milton and Marjorie Erma (Nehls) Bowers. On June 28, 2003, he married Donna Theisen who survives him. Richard proudly served his nation in the United States Navy active duty for 4 years, United States Naval Reserve for 6 years, and United States Army National Guard for 6 years. He worked for many years and retired from Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a genuine foodie and never met a buffet that he didn’t like. Rick was a great storyteller and loved embellishing every story a little bit.  Besides his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Kendra (Steven) Shupp of New London, OH, Gretchen Stevens of Mansfield, OH, Rick (Natalie) Bowers of New London, OH, Amy (Keith) Bailey of New London, OH; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Monica (Raymond Tomlinson) Parish of Lehigh Acres, FL, Andrea (Phillip Dickinson) Parish of Waldorf, MD; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a twin infant brother, Raymond.
