A graveside service with full military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery located at 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, Michigan on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend the committal ceremony are asked to arrive to the cortege area no later than 1:45 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan, c/o the funeral home.

Age 84, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Bob was born in Kalamazoo, on March 2nd, 1935 to Richard and Allene (Wakefield) Engberts. After high school, he honorably served our county in the United States Army, beginning at Fort Sheridan Illinois. Bob worked for many years at Eckrich Brothers of Kalamazoo, and retired from there after 31 years of dedicated service. Bob was known for helping others. He never overlooked anyone in need and would drop everything to assist when ever they needed his help. He and Edna met each other at a garage sale in 1978, fell head over heels for each other and were married on April 7, 1978, most recently celebrating 41 years of marriage. Bob also loved to read, sailing, and other water sports, as well as traveling across the country and bicycling. He was particularly proud of his service to our country and the years he spent in the National Guard. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Robert “Rob” Engberts, a brother, Steve Engberts, son-in-law, Robert Zimbelman and step daughter, Kathy Struble. He is survived by his wife, Edna, children, Cheri (Curtis) DeVries, Jody (Tom Kurtz) Dayton, Bobbie (Tim) Ives, Melissa Engberts, step children, Kim Zimbelman, Natalie (Tim) Schuiteboer, Terry (Betina) Adams, Annette Miller, daughter in law, Susie Engberts, special nephew Steven Bird and 11 grandchildren, Jacob, Matt, Christopher, Whitney, Jessica, Brooke, Cody, Emily, Joshua, Jason, Justin and Heather, along with 15 great grandchildren, as well as his brother, Jim (Marilyn) Engberts.
